What is the 2Fin MCP integration?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets assistants like Claude and Cursor connect securely to external tools. The 2Fin MCP server gives your assistant access to your financial data in Fin — transactions from your connected bank feeds, manual entries, CSV imports and API records — with categories, deductions and spending patterns, so it can answer questions about your actual finances, not a generic dataset. What it may do is what you approve on the consent screen: an assistant that asks to read only stays read-only.
How does the ChatGPT connection work?
2Fin supports the OpenAI plugin OAuth standard. Connect through the 2Fin integration in ChatGPT and approve access on the consent screen, which names every permission, including any access to change your records. Your transactions in Fin, including the ones from your connected bank feeds, with their categories and deduction insights, become available inside your ChatGPT conversation.
Can a connected assistant see my bank login or move money?
No. 2Fin uses read-only bank connections — your credentials are never stored and no money can be moved or transacted. When you connect an assistant, the consent screen names every permission it asks for, including any access to change your records; an assistant that asks to read only stays read-only. Connected assistants see your transactions in Fin — the ones from your connected bank feeds as well as manual entries, CSV imports and API records. Before anything reaches the assistant, 2Fin strips emails, card numbers, bank account and BSB numbers, phone numbers, tax file numbers and the names of people in person-to-person transfers; merchants, amounts and dates are kept. You can revoke access from 2Fin account settings at any time.
